I envy you sir for flying this legendary aircraft! I was 2 years old when I flew on the L-1011 for the only time in my life and have no recollection of it sadly. I saw one taking off from KDTW last summer and I made my girlfriend pull off of the road so I could watch it. I met a commercial pilot for AA at a neighborhood cookout who said a 757 with RB211's was 2/3rd's of a TriStar. You are a very lucky guy.

On the RB211's there is a very classic low whurl spool. Check it out on the 757-200. Just above idle the "mousing" low whurl spool you can hear, thats what causes the virbrations. It doesn'y happen on the 757, because it's cabin windows are layed out better.

Greg,
Thank you for this video. My favorite airplane video on youtube.

Interesting how the pilots spool up the engines before the plane is lined up with the runway. Love how they bring the throttles first to one level (maybe 50%), then after a few seconds up to take off power.

Also interesting to hear that harmonic that rattles the window at a certain engine rpm. Bet Lockheed's engineers pondered that one for a while!

Is there a Delta L-1011 pilot here who can comment on this video?
