Awesome video of the Hawaii tsunami paying us a visit in our normally calm backyard canal. Pay close attention, you can see the wave “barrel” on the left hand side, near the concrete drain. In over 20+ years of living here, I have NEVER seen anything like this. To the average person this probably looks unimpressive, but the video doesn’t do the wave justice. You had to be there in person to appreciate its epicness. Being a surfer, I wanted to jump in and ride it, but I didn’t want to end up in the tall grass. In retrospect, I should’ve done it. I probably won’t experience that again for a long time, if ever again. All in all, good experience, well worth staying up for 24+ hours and experiencing 4+ surges of waves. The most epic wave was the first one, as seen in this video here: www.youtube.com however, its pretty dark (filmed at 4am). The last wave in that video is quite visible. Again the video doesn’t do it justice. I saw a full on wave come down the canal, and actually was a tad bit scared for a second. Then I manned up.

One of the most powerful Kona storms in recent memory struck the state of Hawaii on December 5th, 2007. The storm brought wind gusts over 70mph to Oahu, Molokai and Maui, and gusts over 50mph to the rest of the state. As with most Kona storms, the strongest winds were recorded in lee of mountain ranges and ridges, particularly on Oahu. I spent the afternoon of December 4th filming onshore winds in Honolulu, then travelled across the Ko’olau Mountains to Kailua, where stronger winds were forecast to occur. The winds increased throughout the night and started causing damage around 9pm on Oahu. The winds slowly increased until the squall line arrived around 3:15am, at which point the winds rapidly increased to near hurricane force. The worst of the winds were over after 20mins. During this short time the roof of the home I was staying in was badly damaged, and hundreds of other homes in the Kailua/Kaneohe area experienced mild to moderate roof and window damage. Power lines built to withstand 80mph winds were blown over in the storm.

This 168 pound Blue Marlin was landed aboard the Magic in Kewalo Basin Marina on Oahu. I have fished on this boat 6 times and have caught Marlin, Ono, Mahi Mahi, Aku and Spearfish Marlin. This is the best Captain and crew I have fished with. I have been on a few other boats in the harbor, but like this boat the best. It’s a 50′ Pacifica and is very comfortable. Here are some recent catches: www.magicsportfishing.com Magic holds many Hawaii Sportfishing records: Charter fleet records 1032 lbs …

Here is a preview of some spots along our NW & NE coastlines. Wave Height ranging from 5 ft. – 12 ft Hawaiian Scale. Which spot was the best? You make the call?
