Well would you look at that the beautiful DC-10 in Hawaii in 1997-what a year :)

All though the DC-10 was the most crash prominent plane there ever was i think, I still would give almost anything to fly on one of these, as i never had the oppertunity…

dang. and I only flew on the 757 to Maui from LAX in March of ’98 and back to SFO on a 757. Would’ve liked to fly on this, but a 757 still owns.

I have a magazine from 1976 soon after the announcement that the McDonnell and Douglas corporations were discussing the merger that would later create the McDonnell Douglas corporation. Man, aviation history never gets boring.

I believe it was due bad, terrible crash in chicago in somewhere in 1979 at O’hare airport.. And had bad crash record on this…… Than Lockheed L-1011.

never been in a dc-10 or 3 engined plane can you tell me how it is like

dingdongditch1000 August 23, 2009 at 3:58 pm

Just like a normal plane, but more faster than a 2-engine plane!!!

fordgrantorinoman September 10, 2009 at 8:51 pm

awesome aircraft! Plenty of thrust! Larger plane – much! 400,000 lbs take off weight. It is like a big old Cadillac. It feels safer than today’s twin engine carbon fiber planes. It’s all about fuel consumption versus your safety!

A380steelerfan September 11, 2009 at 9:23 am

the DC-0 is so old school
now you would be on a 767 or 777 to Hawaii

Is that plane in United’s early 80s colors, early 90s colors, old colors, or “Friendship Colors?”

remnant1978 October 25, 2009 at 5:25 pm

great video thanks….lotsa great memories from that island

cubsrule2040 November 15, 2009 at 12:52 pm

Continental uses a 737-900ER on its LAX-HNL flights, and in 2010, they’ll be using a 737-800 on the LAX-Kahului routes

cubsrule2040 November 15, 2009 at 12:56 pm

It was especially prone to crashing in the 70s due to design issues

cubsrule2040 November 15, 2009 at 12:57 pm

The L-1011 had a better safety record than the DC-10, even though a Delta L-1011 crashed near DFW, but it was due to weather

strassj November 15, 2009 at 7:15 pm

Yes, Its 80′s to 90′s and until at nearly middle of 95′s then all color change.
Those is friendship color, and known as “rainbow” color.

Trevorpilot123 November 16, 2009 at 5:15 pm

I like those colors, and wish they still have them.

strassj November 16, 2009 at 6:27 pm

Me too. So beauiful enough to not get rid of the 70′s to 90′s color.

Trevorpilot123 November 17, 2009 at 6:46 pm

They should keep it. I like it.

strassj November 18, 2009 at 10:24 am

Trevorpilot123 November 20, 2009 at 7:54 am
